I'm curious: Do we have a foreign policy?
An innocent observer might think our foreign policy was just to kiss up to any foreign power available, regardless of the impact it might have on our own people...
The following was copied off the wire at 4:49 p.m. on 3/26/06 :
March 26 (Bloomberg) -- Bush administration officials said today they will ask Russia about captured documents that say the Russian ambassador in Iraq gave intelligence about U.S. military strategy to Saddam Hussein during the March 2003 invasion.
``Anytime a country provides information to an enemy that would potentially put people at risk, we take that very seriously,'' the president's national security adviser, Stephen Hadley, said today on CBS's ``Face The Nation'' program in Washington. ``We will be raising it with the Russians.''
Hadley and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in separate interviews that they haven't reached any conclusions about whether the report is true. The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service denies the allegation, the Russian news agency Interfax reported.
The report is part of a study issued March 24 by the Pentagon and based on thousands of captured Iraqi documents and interviews with Iraqi military and political officials. The study says Russia's ambassador gave Iraq ``strategic intelligence'' on U.S. troop movements and bombing targets. Russia, along with France and Germany, led the opposition at the United Nations to the U.S. invasion.
The study, by the Joint Forces Command, said the intelligence was passed to Iraq's foreign minister, who in turn passed it on to Hussein in a memo dated April 2, 2003. At the time, U.S. forces were advancing rapidly toward the capital and Iraqi generals were assessing how to reposition their Republican Guard divisions. The report didn't identify the minister by name. Naji Sabri was Hussein's last foreign minister.
No Conclusions
Rice said it was too early to point fingers.
``I would not jump to the conclusion that this -- if, indeed, the reports are true -- that it had to be Moscow- directed,'' she said on the ``Fox News Sunday'' program. ``So let's take a look and let's talk with the Russian government about it.''
Senator Ted Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, said on ``Face the Nation'' that the U.S. needs ``an entirely new assessment of our relationship with Russia, should this be true.''
Back to me. If I'm not mistaken, the U.S. government will likely respond by sending several million dollars of free grain to Russia - it's the way we USUALLY respond in any situation!
Condoleeza Rice said "Let's ask Russia about it." If you were the Russians, and you'd already heard about this on the news (thanks to our media) wouldn't YOU deny it? What good would it do to plead guilty? No more free grain!
Why we haven't closed our borders, and concentrated on solving problems here at home is beyond me. We are at war, you know...just because we haven’t been attacked lately, doesn't mean we should ignore reason - remember 9/11!
Many are tired, overworked, and holding down 2 jobs - just to make ends meet!
Not long ago, (I THINK it was during the Clinton administration - not sure) we opened the Mexican border, bringing thousands of Mexicans here, seeking jobs...tax-free jobs at that!
Our own people don't get treated THAT well...if my paycheck were tax free; it'd be like getting a 15% raise!
We were already headed to a recession - jobless rates were climbing - even a 6th grader could've told you there was trouble ahead, which WE invited by such bad decision-making! When there's a shortage of jobs, you DON'T invite more people in to look for work!
We need to start supporting our own American companies, buy less from overseas, and rewrite some of our tax laws...if anyone wants to come to this country, let them serve in our armed forces first - as a proof of loyalty - and we'll se an improvement in the current situation.
It seems that both democratic and republican parties have their head in the sand - or up their sitting down place!
Making decisions based on politics is sheer idiocy - yes, you DO have to be careful who you offend nowadays; nearly everyone has atomic bombs in their backyards - but making all your decisions based on politics and suppositional information doesn't make good sense, and usually costs lives.
Never the lives of our politicians, though - notice that?
Perhaps we should send our congressmen to fight this war...and the next one, and the next one...until they start to learn from their mistakes.
