Liza Rehabs
Liza Minelli has entered a rehab center in Pennsylvania for an annual "self-help" program to aid in her recovery.
One of Liza’s reps stated, "Every year, she does eight weeks at Caron." Minelli has suffered over the years from her addictions to alcohol, painkillers, and "party drugs." Her stints at Caron are to help her retain her sobriety. She was originally supposed to check out of the facility last week, but decided to stay another week. Minelli’s stated reason for staying is, in her words, that she is "learning so much about myself."
Minelli’s camp denies reports that she slipped off the wagon and had reportedly overdosed. Minelli also denies that she and her husband of one year, David Gest, are divorcing. Just a few weeks ago it was announced that, to celebrate their upcoming anniversary, Minelli and Gest were to host an April 15 celebration featuring Ray Charles, a 68-piece orchestra and an expected attendance of approximately 1,200 guests. They subsequently canceled the party due to the war with Iraq. Minelli released a statement, "We held off sending our invitations out because we want to have our party when the world is at peace and people can come and enjoy themselves."
Minelli and Gest have had a hell of a year. They are knee-deep in suits and counter-suits stemming from their failed VH-1 series. Last week, a contractor brought another lawsuit against the happy couple, claiming unpaid home repairs. The good news is that they are in the process of adopting a little girl; they will host The View for two days in April; and will star in a special about their lives in Britain. Gest is producing a documentary about his lifelong friend and best man, Michael Jackson, called Defending Michael. Liza has a world tour planned and also just signed on to be the newest cover girl for MAC Cosmetics. Ok, Liza and Cover Girl just don’t seem to mesh well!
