Brosnan Bond Again?
Actor Pierce Brosnan, who has played James Bond in the last four films, accuses the makers of the 007 franchise of being "scared."
Brosnan says he is game for a fifth Bond movie, set to begin filming in the Fall, but scriptwriters have been unable to come up with a plot. Brosnan’s four-year contract has come to an end, but he would be willing to make a fifth with the right script. Brosnan has spoken out about the Broccoli family for wanting to make the Bond movies into more of an action movie.
Brosnan said, "They’re too scared. They feel they have to top themselves in a genre, which is just spectacle and a huge bang for your buck. But I think you can have your cake and eat it. You can have real character work, a character storyline and a thriller aspect and all kinds of quips, asides, the explosions and the women. We’re just saturated with too many overblown action films with no plot." Now what do you really think, Pierce?
With the influx of the over-the-top action flicks, Brosnan is right. We are "saturated" with these dime-a-dozen movies. Brosnan said, "I would love to do a fifth Bond and then bow out, but if this last one is to be my last, then so be it. My contract is up. They can do it or not." Brosnan made a good Bond, but there are plenty of actors who would take his spot and do the bust’em up action flick rather than the shaken-not-stirred approach of the past.
