I found my heart in the hill
This is a story about overcoming your fear and taking the risk to love again.
As he usually does, he seats on a landscaped hill on the park. Staring, if not at the calm sea, probably at the peaceful sky. He has been like this since her ex-girlfriend Jane, and him broke up.
Without his knowledge, through those consecutive days of him staring at the sea and the sky, someone stares at him just the same. She is Kyle. She can’t help but be interested to know this intriguing guy.
After all those days of wondering, at last, Kyle managed to find courage to talk to Allan. She slowly walks towards him. She said, "Hi, I’m Kyle. I’ve been seeing you here almost everyday this past few weeks. Anyway, may I know your name?"
Allan then slowly turns to look at Kyle. He didn’t even give her a smile. He simply just replied, "I’m Allan. Is there anything I can do for you?" He just gave her a blank face without showing even just a little interest to talk to her.
Kyle suddenly felt nervous. She can’t explain what she exactly feels. Her heart beat like a drum in a rock concert. His reply didn’t offend her. It may be weird, but actually, it made her more interested in him.
Kyle didn’t reply so Allan turned to stare at the sea again. She then slowly sits beside him and said, "I just thought, can we be friends?" Allan simply said, "Sure." Kyle can’t explain how good it feels that she hoped time would stop, but it didn’t and soon it’s time to bid goodbye.
Time passed so quick, as when she knew it, it’s time to sleep. Everyone in their house seems to be sleeping, but not Kyle. She can’t sleep. She can’t take Allan off his mind: his eyes, his voice, his looks and most of all, his mysterious personality.
The next day came. After finishing her work at the office, Kyle quickly packed her things and went to the park with excitement. She was so happy ‘till she reached the hill and saw no one there. The wind blew the smile off her face, and then she just sat down the hill.
Kyle then wondered, what is there in the sea and the sky that Allan loves to look at it. She stared at it, not realizing that she is slowly falling for its beauty. She also didn’t realize that Allan is walking towards her. Well, not until he started to talk.
Allan calmly said, "You’re that girl yesterday, right?" Kyle can’t hide how happy she feels when she saw him. She didn’t even manage to reply. So Allan thought it was a case of mistaken identity. He apologized and said, "I’m sorry. I guess I’ve mistaken you for someone else." Then he sat down.
Kyle then said, "No you didn’t. It’s nice to see you again." Allan didn’t reply. He just stared at the sea as he usually does. From here on, everyday after work, she goes in the hill to meet him. They slowly became closer and changes were obvious.
Allan, not realizing the fact, but he is slowly getting back to whom he used to be. You can see him smile again, and it is because of Kyle. They somehow share the same interests. Their works are also somehow related. She is an article writer while he is a photographer of a magazine.
Several weeks passed and they became really close. It has been their hobby to go there every afternoon and share the view. Without their knowledge, they’re no longer just falling for the view, but most especially for each other.
Just when they, especially Kyle, thought everything is and will be fine, problems started to air. She felt he is slowly moving apart from her. She asked him several times about what she noticed, but he just denied. ‘Till one day, Allan confessed.
He said, "Before anything else, I would like to say sorry. Yes it is true. I’m trying to slowly part from you. I think I’ve fallen for you, but I am still unsure. I don’t want us to hope, and then realize it was just an infatuation. At the same time, I don’t think I’m ready to commit again after what happened between Jane and me.
Kyle can’t find the words to say. She wasn’t able to reply. All she was able to do was to spread her tears. She didn’t know why she cried. Perhaps it is because of shock, but nevertheless, because it obviously hurts.
When Allan saw the tears from her eyes, he wiped it with her fingers and said’ "Please don’t cry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just don’t want to be unfair. I am currently in a state of confusion, and I don’t want you to be involved."
Kyle then stood up, wiped her tears and said, "I think we both need some time to think. I guess it would be better if we stop seeing each other." Allan was shocked and was also hurt. Although he hate to say it, he said’ "I think so." So Kyle turned her back and left crying.
The night after, both of them weren’t able to sleep. They thought of their happy moments together, the times when they shared the view. They can’t help themselves from crying. They both regret the time they let each other part.
Both of them were distracted. They can’t do their jobs well. They can no longer concentrate.
Not just their working relationships with their co-workers were affected, but so as their relationships with their families and friends.
One day, Dan, Allan’s best friend, talked to him regarding this matter. He is worried about his friend. He is afraid the same thing might happen again. He said, "What’s the matter, man? I thought you’re okay now."
Allan just said’ "I don’t know. Perhaps I’m just afraid, afraid to get hurt again, afraid to hurt her." Dan replied, "Don’t you realize, because you are so cautious of getting hurt, you are hurt even more? So as she."
Kyle on the other hand, talked to her sister Elaine. She said, "I can no longer take it sis. This pain is killing me. I have never loved this much. I want to get mad at him for causing this pain, but I just can’t. I really deeply love him." Then tears fell from her eyes.
Elaine, not knowing what to do, just gave her a hug and said, "Oh my dear sister. If I can just share your pain.. If I can fid a way to relieve it.. If you love him that much, then approach him. Tell him how much you do. At least by that, you won’t regret that you haven’t told him how you really feel."
The next day, Kyle didn’t go to work. She spent the day in the park. She sat by the hill where they shared their lives for some time. She can’t help but reminisce. She remembered the mysterious man he used to wonder about. She remembered the first smile he gave her, but most especially the time she learned she fell for him.
Allan also didn’t go to work. He was just alone in his apartment. He wondered if what he did was right. He thought of what Dan said. He thought, "Yes, he’s right. I shouldn’t be afraid to try. I love her and it is worth the risk." So Allan went to the park where he hasn’t been for some time.
While Allan is in the park, walking towards the hill, she saw a lady sitting there. His heart beat fast and hard. He can hardly breath. He can hardly raise his feet to walk, but he managed to do so. When he reached the hill, all he managed to say was, "Kyle."
Kyle then turned, and when he saw him, she burst in tears. Allan gave her a very tight hug and said, "I love you Kyle. I’m sorry for hurting you. I promise not to do it again. Just let me love you. Please give me a chance."
Kyle freed herself from Allan, looked at him straight in the eye and said, "Oh Allan, I’ve been wanting those hear those words from you. I love you too. I can never get mad at you. You? You’re the reason why I live."
Allan held her hands and said’ "Oh Kyle." He then hugged her again really tight showing how much he missed her, but nevertheless how much he love her.
