Backstreet Boy, A.J. McLean, Engaged
Backstreet Boy, A.J. McLean, announced over the weekend that he proposed to his girlfriend, singer Sarah Martin, on December 16 and they plan to marry sometime next year. The engagement was announced during an interview with VH1 over the weekend. McLean and Martin met at a karaoke bar last summer before he went into rehab. He told USA Today last fall, "She stopped drinking, too, while I was in rehab and has been very supportive." He told VHI that he hopes to be married next year on the anniversary of the day they met - no word on what day that was.
Last July, the band’s publicist announced that McLean suffered from clinical depression, anxiety and excessive alcohol abuse. The statement said the death of his grandmother was a key factor in the "breakdown." McLean was very close to his grandmother. McLean entered rehab and the Backstreet Boys had to delay their concert tour. McLean rejoined the band in August.
Recently it has been suggested that the band is possibly breaking up and each member is itching to do their own solo albums. Other reports state that the band is getting ready to enter the studio to work on their follow up record to 2000’s Black & Blue. Reports state that the boys will be writing some of their own tunes and getting a little help from friends Jermaine Dupri and Glen Ballard. McLean will be the third Backstreet Boy to tie the knot. Brian Littrell married actress Leighanne Wallace and Kevin Richardson married dancer Kristin Willits in 2000.
