Maintaining your hair all through Summer
Beautiful Hair: Summer literally means fun in the sun. Lazy days at the beach, lounging poolside, jetting around town with the top down and enjoying a barbecue with friends, and what’s even better; to have a great looking tan!
Here are some of the ways to help you see through some real sunshine
* You could prevent green hair with an anti-chlorine shampoo and conditioner if your summer plans include a lot of pool time. Its best to use a moisturizing shampoo along with a conditioner at least a few times a week to combat any dryness caused by daily exposure to the sun. You’d never realize it until its too late.
* Do a hot oil hair treatment followed by a clarifying shampoo about three times a month. The oil treatment offers a moisture surge and adds luster, while the shampoo will remove any residue of chlorine, salt, sunscreen and styling products. Coconut oil by far is the best for your hair, in any given season. You could also experiment with a mixture of olive oil, a few teaspoons of lime juice and coconut oil. The lime helps you get rid of the grime and sweat that summer accompanies.
* Protect your hair and scalp from the damaging rays of the sun. Talk to your hairdresser or beauty supply store about creams and spray treatments that offer sun protection. It would be ideal if you could move out with either a parasol or an umbrella or perhaps have your hair ties with a scarf. The sun not only bleaches your hair, but also leaves the shaft moisture less!
* Alternate your up dos. Minimize the breakage caused by tight or frequent ponytails by pulling your hair back with headbands, hair sticks or hair clips instead. It would be ideal if you could treat yourself with a special "summer cut " The shorter the hair, the more manageable it would be, not to mention; clean!
* Remember that color-treated hair fades faster when exposed to the direct rays of the sun. Hats or head wraps are a must. Find out which sun-protection hair product is best suited to your hair. If possible use only the conditioner required for colored hair, it sure helps your trip to the salon.
* Skip blow-drying and the use of hot rollers and curling irons whenever possible. When it's a must, always use heat-activated styling products, particularly at the ends, to guard against drying. Straightening irons with low heat would build for an ideal style.
If you really must need highlights for your hair to give you that look, you could create natural blond highlights with a chamomile or lemon juice rinse.
A few Warnings:
* Remember that although your scalp is covered with hair, it's still susceptible to sunburn. Try not to use darker shades of either umbrellas or scarves, as they attract more heat. It would be best if you could avoid silks this season; stay loyal to cottons or chiffons, they are the best bet this summer.
* And while you are truly in awe of your streaks, remember that these naturally created streaks may cause your hair to look dry. The lemon juice that you nourish your hair with contains citric acid, that can cause dryness and damage.
* Despite its foul odor, eggs and vinegar do wonders for our hair! So if eggs are too much to tackle with this summer, you could indirectly get them into your system, through their application in your hair! All you would really need are 2 egg yolks and 4 tablespoons of vinegar. Just mix these in and apply them to damp hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes or more and then shampoo thoroughly. Shampoos allow the smell to leave your hair and the conditioner makes them more shiny and manageable.
