Kuwaiti, said to have been building links between al-Qaida and other militant groups in south-east Asia.

Status arrested last June in Indonesia

Thirwat Salah Shirhata
Zawahri's deputy in the Egyptian Islamic Jihad group. Has been sentenced to death (twice) in his absence in Egypt.

Ali Qaed Senyan al-Harithi
Important al-Qaida figure, suspected of involvement in attack on USS Cole. Status dead, assassinated by US when CIA drone hit his car in Yemen with rocket

Mohammed Haydar Zammar
Syrian-born German citizen. Said to have spent time in Hamburg with Atta and two other September 11 hijackers.

Status arrested in Morocco, but later sent to Syria

Anas al-Liby
Libyan linked by US to the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Spent some time in Britain.

Status captured in Afghanistan in January 2002
