NCAA: Macy slams Pitino; coaching update
By Rick Reighard Sports Central, e-sports.com Columnist
A lot is happening in the world of college basketball. Sports fans are busy looking over their brackets and eagerly watching the NCAA tournament. However, there are a lot of non-tournament related things going on in the NCAA. For one, the coaching situation of three high caliber coaches is still undetermined. Watching this coaching controversy unfold is like watching one sick, twisted, soap opera.
Latest on Rick Pitino: Saturday, former Kentucky and Boston Celtics coach Rick Pitino said that he would give the University of Louisville his decision on whether or not he would coach the basketball team on Wednesday. Rick Pitino should consider himself lucky being offered such a prestigious position after failing miserably at trying to coach the Boston Celtics. I am having difficulty trying to figure out why a failed NBA coach is in such high demand. Sure, he had a successful stand at Kentucky, but who hasn't? It is impossible not to look good when you are coaching one of the most storied universities in college basketball history.
In other news, last night on a radio program, former Kentucky star Kyle Macy slammed Rick Pitino, for even considering coaching Kentucky's rival. Macy said that Pitino isn't a real Kentucky Wildcat for even considering the job.
Latest on Bobby Knight: Bob Knight met with eight students Saturday, and none of them even had to report to a hospital. That is very good for Knight's chances of getting the Texas Tech job. It was reported that he talked to the kids about how important it was to him that all of his kids graduate, and that he can teach them life lessons. And who better to teach kids life lessons than Bob Knight? You know that you made a big mistake when one minute you are coaching the Indiana Hoosiers, and the next, you will be lucky to coach Texas Tech. Texas Tech actually wouldn't be that bad of a job, if you were applying for the job of head football coach.
Latest on Rick Reighard: After the Athletic Director from Duke University begged me for almost two hours to take the basketball job, I had to decline. I told the A.D. that they already had a very good coach in Coach K. He said that if I would consider taking the job, he would have no problem firing Coach K. However, I didn't want to get anyone fired. Other officials from North Carolina, Kentucky, and UCLA met with me over the past week. I am going to announce my decision to decline all offers of coaching, right now. I am happy as a sports columnist at the present time. However, if the right deal comes up, the one that offers me $10 million dollars a year, I might change my mind.
Besides the wild and crazy NCAA tournament, that's the latest on Pitino and Knight. Hopefully, Bob and Rick can find some jobs, so they can get themselves out of the media spotlight.
