British Airways Suspends Flights to Israel

British Airways today announced that all its flights to Israel's capital, Tel Aviv, will be cancelled from Thursday, and will remain suspended until further notice.

British Airways currently operates two services daily to Tel Aviv, and a spokesperson for the airline confirmed that both of these flights will run today. Barring further advice to the contrary, one service will also operate to Israel tomorrow; however, this will be the final flight to the country until the current crisis is over.

The airline has also decided to suspend its services to Kuwait and Abu Dhabi. Since February, the destinations have both been serviced by a single stopover service and, following Foreign Office advice to British nationals to leave Kuwait, the Abu Dhabi leg of the flight was cancelled yesterday in order to free up further space for people wishing to vacate Kuwait. However, tonight marks the last flight to Kuwait until further notice, and the final flight to enter Britain from Kuwait will arrive at Heathrow tomorrow morning.

British Airways said that there would be no further changes to its services at the present time, but the situation will be reviewed on a daily basis.

The Foreign Office travel website this morning also recommended that, in light of the current volatile situation in Iraq, British nationals in Jordan and Bahrain also consider leaving unless their presence is essential. The FCO has been advising against all non-essential (including holiday) travel to the two countries since February 21.
