Commonwealth Games: Gault Targets Record

A medal of any description in the 10m air pistol pairs will mean Mick Gault will become England's most decorated athlete.
Mick Gault is set to become England's most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history after he won a bronze in the 50-metre pistol pairs, the 12th of his career and only one behind the swimmer Karen Pickering's record.

The 51-year-old from Dereham in Norfolk teamed up with Bedford's Nick Baxter to finish third in a competition won by Australia's David Moore and Daniel Repacholi.

Gault will break the record if he and Baxter take a medal in the 10m air pistol pairs, which they won in 1998 and 2002, and then he and Simon Lucas do the same in the 25m standard pistol.

England, even without their injured captain Beth Tweddle, won silver in the women's team gymnastics, delivered by Shavahn Church, Imogen Cairns, Becky Downie and Hannah Clowes. Scotland won two bronzes in the track cycling through Kate Cullen in the women's points race and Ross Edgar in the men's keirin. The Welshman Geraint Thomas won bronze in the men's points race.
