NBA: Jordan comeback not likely

Michael Jordan is good for the NBA. That's an overwhelming consensus, no doubt. But, could he still help a team on the court?

Michael Jordan playing basketball again? That's a dream come true for most any a basketball fan. It would even be a dream come true for the NBA. The only thing is, that Michael Jordan would come back a Washington Wizard, not a Chicago Bull. Now, that's not as exciting, is it?

The last time we saw Jordan on the court was against the Utah Jazz, hitting that final shot at the buzzer to win Game Six. That was three years ago. This is now.

Let's look at the facts. Yes, Michael Jordan is working out. Yes, this is the same regimen he followed when playing. But he's been out of the game three years. He's put on some pounds since then, too, it'll take more than a little exercise to get Jordan to the top level he would need to be at to make a comeback.

Let's be optimistic and say Jordan can come back and play at a superstar level. He'd be playing for the Wizards. Yes, the lowly Wizards. Jordan would bring tickets. But who would pay to see Jordan and a bunch of other guys on a .500 team after his comeback wears old? Jordan would make an impact on the team, but no way would they be a contender.

There's only one way that everything would be right for a Jordan comeback. Jordan would have to come back at the dominating level he exited at. He should be a part of the Chicago Bulls again. Finally, that aura should be there, they should be the best team in the league, and they know it. That said, there probably won't be an NBA/Jordan reunion.

Maybe that's the way it should be. Let the young guns make names for themselves. And let us remember that basketball god's last few moments on the court.
