Cycling: Millar Selcted in British Squad for Manchester World Cup Round
March 17: David Millar has been selected for Britain's squad in the team pursuit event in the track World Cup round in Manchester at Easter.
Confirmation that Britain's top cyclist David Millar is serious about transferring his road racing skills to the track in the Athens Olympics came yesterday with his selection for Britain's squad in the team pursuit event in the track World Cup round to be held in Manchester at Easter.
"In order to keep the window of opportunity open for Dave to compete on the track in Athens it makes a lot of sense for him to experience competition on the track at international level as preparation," said Dave Brailsford, cycling's world-class performance director.
Millar, winner of three Tour de France stages and reigning world time-trial champion, has already been confirmed as Britain's entrant in the road time-trial in Athens. Last autumn he trained in Manchester with Britain's world-class performance squad with a view to taking up one of the two places available in Athens in the individual pursuit.
