The End of the Backstreet Boys?

Rumor has it that the Backstreet Boys just may be on the verge of a break-up after a tumultuous year and lackluster sales of their latest album. Is this the end of the Backstreet Boys? Some would hope. It is rumored that with all the strife members of the band have been through in the past year, coupled with their outrageous egos…it just might lead to the demise of BSB.

The band had to put their U.S. tour on pause after A.J. McLean entered rehab for "depression, anxiety and his excessive consumption of alcohol" according to fellow band mate Kevin Richardson. Laura Morgan, entertainment editor at Seventeen Magazine was quoted, "The struggles that they went through with A.J. could potentially make them closer because they really stuck by him." After A.J.’s troubles, Nick Carter was arrested at a Florida nightclub appropriately called Pop, in January. Add all this to their waning popularity, over inflated egos and less than stellar album sales. Their star that once shone so bright seems to have dimmed a bit in the shadows of their nemesis, *NSync (Dirty Pop…). *NSync, cheesy top 40 boy band, has made the smooth transition to mainstream and urban listeners, a feat that other boy bands have not been successful in achieving. BSB’s latest album -- their singles -- collection, titled "The Hits – Chapter One," entered the charts at Number 4 and within a month had slid to Number 19. Their previous two albums debuted at Number 1 and hung with the popular crowd in the Top 10 for months.

It has been reported that the members are each itching to get their solo careers started. Nick Carter has his debut album hitting the airwaves right before the next BSB album comes out. If the buzz is anything to pay attention to…word has it that his solo album is going to blow the group effort out of the water. Is this the end of the Backstreet Boys?
