General: Mullin' It Over -- Olympics are over edition
The Winter Olympics were actually interesting for a change, and now it's time to see what else took place over a busy February in the world of sports.
The Olympics have come and gone, the NCAA tournament bids have been given, and somebody finally decided they really want Trent Dilfer. Ain't this just grand? The planets must be aligned just right or something.
Either way, it is all just fodder for another edition of your favorite column, Mullin' It Over!
Sarah Hughes reaction to winning the gold was nice, but did you get a load of that woman with her? Good grief, you'd have thought she had been on the ice herself. That was just a tiny bit of hilarious overkill.
Gonzaga as a No. 6 seed? What is up with that? What part of 29-3 doesn't the selection committee understand?
Jim Shea is a modern day role model in my book. Notice I didn't say hero. That name is reserved for people like the ones on September 11.
Has it occurred to anyone else that there seems to be way too much room for cheating and other things not so up-and-up in men's speed skating?
Speaking of speed skating, Apolo Anton Ohno sure was fun to watch, but somehow I didn't see him as the star everyone else did.
Has anyone noticed that the Detroit Pistons started out this season going hell-bent-for-leather, leading their conference, then fell off to below .500 by January, only to become the hottest team in the NBA over the past month or so, now owning the second seed in the second best record in the Eastern Conference?
Some ride for the fans.
I'm thinking that Ricky Williams may just be the final piece in a Miami Dolphin SuperBowl puzzle.
Who'd have thought we'd take second place in the overall medal count? Way to go USA.
It's been six months since 9/11, and the flag wavin' is slimming down a bit. Hey everyone, what's changed? Keep Old Glory waving everywhere!
Andre Agassi won his 50th title this weekend. Great to see him finally getting back in the groove.
I feel a little bit sad for Michelle Kwan, but hey, USA won the Gold didn't we? So what's the big deal?
Jon Gruden's jump to the Buc's still has me scratching my head. Talk about a team heading in the wrong direction.
Bon Jovi's It's My Life, the adopted anthem of everything sports, has that eternal quality that most songs only dream about.
Will somebody PLEASE tell me why the Packers traded for Terry Glenn? Don't they know this guy is trouble? It will be interesting to see how the blue-collar fans in Green Bay take to an enigma like Glenn.
The Red Wings are just plain hot. No, they're hotter than hot. Oh yeah, and they're not even playing with Stevie Y.
Time for March Madness, Major League Baseball Opening Day, then the Stanley Cup march, and then it's time for the NFL again! Goody Goody!
Now that thought oughta keep you comforted until we can whip together the next edition of MIO! See you next month.
