India Turn the Screw

Cricket: Sachin Tendulkar fell six runs short of the world record for Test centuries on another good day for India.
India took control of the first Test on the third day against Pakistan, but Sachin Tendulkar fell just short of a record 35th Test hundred.

Tendulkar edged paceman Rana Naved to Asim Kamal at gully in the first over with the second new ball late in the day to fall six short of beating compatriot Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test tons.

However, India finished the day in a strong position of 447 for six in reply to Pakistan's first innings 312 all out, a lead of 135 runs.

Earlier Virender Sehwag, dropped on 15 and 82 overnight, went on to complete his ninth Test century in the second over of the morning session.

Sehwag dominated the bowling for nearly six hours, hitting 19 fours and two sixes in his 244-ball knock of 173, before mistiming a lofted shot off Abdul Razzaq to mid-on.
