Katrina, The Aftermath 6 Months Plus
Senator Mary Landrieu, wants New Orleans to be reconstructed by its own residents, with one exception, that the cost sharing be waived and the federal government to foot the whole bill for its reconstruction. Cost? A modest $250 billion. Cost per American household approximately $1900. on the low side ,depending on how much your income is, from the sound of it, which means the wealthier you are, well, you get the picture.
You look at the technology afforded by British, Dutch, and The Italians, and ours looks like a big joke! And due to that, thousands of people and their families still are living in shelters, on the streets, tents (if there lucky) or any where they can find shelter and food.
Private Citizens of all walks of life answered the call and donated funds to help the victims of Katrina often to be with held due to glitches in management, or other circumstances beyond their control. F.E.M.A. trailers, can be seen sitting in their staging area lots, empty and can not be delivered to the people who need them the most because of the lack of an area to set them up.
But wait! , What about State parks, Government grounds, Can't they be used for such an emergency until the peoples own land can be decontaminated?

According to the 440 page bill up for inspection, it has been filled with all sorts of little piggy backed items that do not have any thing to do with the immediate help and relief of humanity, such as the following:
$35,000,000 seafood marketing and promotions.
12,000,000 restoration of wildlife areas.
8,000,000 alligator farming aid.
25,490,073 research laboratory for sugarcane.
120,000,000 Southern regional research Laboratory.
28,300,000 rehabilitation of forests.
19,000,000 cellular towers, and public internet, for the down town area of New Orleans, first responders could also use its communications.
34,193,591 Agriculture research, and extension service.
250,000,000 fire fighters assistance.
100,000,000 disorder treatment, prevention and intervention, for school children.
100,000,000 for the same, but for 0-5 year olds.
100,000,000 for substance abuse, intervention and treatment.
600,000,000 early children’s education.
20,000,000 development plans for Louisiana.
7 billion plus 5 billion to rebuild energy supply routes and road
expansion.
160,000,000 to start the 2005 recommendations for Defense base closings, and realignment commission for federal city development in Algiers Louisiana.
150,000,000small business loans, w/tax breaks.
50 billion for block grants.
5,000,000 livestock losses.
5,000,000 dairy produce losses.
1,000 per head of cattle, (no limit on payments max. To producers)
11,000,000 livestock losses.
250,000,000 dairy cattle losses.
27,000,000 timber sales loss in Pearl River wild life refuge.
It sounds like it will be a real prosperous place to live again one day thanks to the American tax payer. At least until the next time it happens.
