Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown: Girls Will Be Girls
A recent exchange of gunfire outside a New York radio station is rumored to be connected to female rappers Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown.
As the trials of other famous rappers are continuing around the country, the latest violence related to the musical genre erupted on Sunday afternoon in New York's trendy Greenwich Village. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary statements from the NYPD, members of Lil' Kim's entourage apparently exchanged gunfire with associates of the rap group Capone-N-Noreaga as Capone arrived outside of the Hot 97 radio station. Although as many as 26 bullets were fired in the exchange and a reported 5 guns were involved, only one injury has been reported. Efrain Ocasio, a friend of Capone, was treated and released from a New York hospital on Monday after telling police that a group of men approached him and his associates outside the radio station and opened fire.
Sources close to the industry have confirmed the existence of bad blood between Lil' Kim, 26, and Foxy Brown, 21, which resulted from recordings by each of the stars whose lyrics openly attack the other. Two years ago, Lil' Kim's release, "Notorious K.I.M" made negative references to Brown, who retorted last year with her release "Big Bang," which appeared on Capone-N-Noreaga's "The Reunion" album.
The details of the shooting still remain unclear and investigators are currently sorting through the evidence and the eyewitness accounts. With the developments that have unfolded in the music industry, and particularly the rap community, involving Eminem and Sean 'Puffy' Combs, among others, it is not all that surprising that the girls were feeling left out of the spotlight.
