No Love Lost Between Lesley Barber and Courtney Love
Courtney Love, lead singer for Hole and budding actress, is heading to court in a legal battle with Lesley Barber, her boyfriend's ex-wife.
The suit, which was filed late last year, has Love alleging harassment and an array of other offenses, and asking for $1.5 million from her beau's aggressive ex-wife. The trouble between the two began over a year and half ago, when Jim Barber's ex, Lesley, threatened Love thusly: "You're a bitch, and I'm going to get you."
Since then, according to the celebrity widow of troubled rock star and one-time voice of Generation X, Kurt Cobain, the ex-Mrs. Barber has harassed her with prank calls, threats of physical violence, and multiple invasions of her privacy.
The final straw, however, and that which predicated the suit, occurred when Lesley attempted to run down Love with her Volvo, which, when one considers it, is hardly the vehicle for such a vicious task (ah, but in the heat of battle, one infrequently considers such things). Love attempted to get out of the way of the family sedan, but was not entirely successful. In the process of evading the vehicle, Love's foot was run over, causing the injuries that are at the heart of the suit.
Love alleges that her injury resulted in her losing a role in the upcoming film by John Carpenter, "Ghosts of Mars," as well as a great deal of emotional trauma and hospital bills. All together, she estimates that she lost $500,000 as a result of not getting the part and, together with attorney Martin Singer, has added $1 million for good measure.
