Longing

For those who know...
Longing
For those who know...
She sits by the sea,
arms cradling her slim sun browned limbs,
dreaming.

The faint tracks of tears,
pale against her rosy face,
lost in a world that holds only magic,
and no pain.

Her huge dark eyes stare longingly at the distant horizon
where a sea unicorn dances upon silver kissed waters.
Lovely things,..
rising out of the foamy, sudsy surf,
glistening wet and white in the lowering evening sun…

From the black crags,
she listens to the plaintive, haunting call of the mer people,
crooning hypnotically of love and loss.

The lambent twilight bathes the restless rippling seas in soft hues of red and gold.

Rising slowly, she watches
a lone tugboat wend its way slowly home to harbor,
Its long day’s journey done....

Her longing heart aches
As she makes her way home
along the deserted beach...
alone.
