Jackson & Timberlake Get Nasty

During the grand finale of Timberlake and Jackson’s erotically charged duet during the half-time show, the duo shocked fans and producers when Timberlake grabbed Jackson’s leather outfit and yanked off a patch covering Janet’s right breast. The exposure was brief as the lights suddenly went down on the show, leaving viewers to wonder if it was a planned stunt or an accident. The fact that Jackson appeared to be wearing a pasty over her nipple led many to believe the stunt had been planned. A fact that Jackson, Timberlake, producers and anyone else involved in the fiasco denied hotly.

The infamous Super Bowl incident, now being referred to as "Boobgate," has taken on a life of its own. Timberlake attempted shock and called the incident "an unintentional wardrobe malfunction." The NFL was not interested in any "malfunction" and NFL executive vice president said, "We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced half-time show." Any attempt to feign innocence and malfunction went by the wayside when the breast baring became a federal case. Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell announced on Monday an "immediate investigation" into "classless, crass, and deplorable stunt" produced by MTV and aired by CBS.

In an interview, MTV Chef Executive Tom Freston said Janet Jackson "engineered" the stunt and that Timberlake was informed of the stunts just moments before appearing on stage. Jackson took the blame and said on Monday that the stunt went further than she had intended and that "MTV was completely unaware of it." A stunt meant to shock the masses seemed to backfire on the mastermind. Seems likely that no one will soon forget that Super Bowl half-time show. Oh, and in case you forgot…the New England Patriots triumphed over the Carolina Panthers.
