Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter, avoided jail time by making a deal with prosecutors after his arrest stemming from an incident at a Florida nightclub. Carter, who recently turned 22, was arrested January 2 after allegedly ignoring a police officer’s orders to leave the club Pop City when an altercation broke out in the wee hours of the morning. Carter was not involved in the scuffle, but he became involved in an argument with an unidentified woman. Officers asked Carter to leave the club at least 10 times, when he refused he was then informed that he had until the count of three to vacate the premises or he would be placed under arrest. When he continued arguing with the woman he was then placed under arrest, handcuffed and put in a police car.
It was reported that at the time of his arrest, Carter began crying and said, "You just want to arrest a Backstreet Boy. I’ve never been arrested. I don’t know what to do!" Carter also denied he did anything wrong except he was "moving too slow." After his arrest, he made the statement, "I truly believe my celebrity motivated the officer to arrest me. He said my name aloud during the incident. I am certain that after a full investigation of the facts, my name will be cleared.
The singer, who faced up to a year in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor count of resisting/opposing a law enforcement officer without violence, agreed Friday to enter a pretrial intervention program. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Assistant State Attorney Pam Bondi said, "He is a first-time offender, and we treated him just like anyone else." The program will keep the aptly nicknamed "Chaos" and "Mr. Hyper Man" out of jail and his record will be expunged if he remains out of trouble.
