Phil Spector Arrested

Record producer Phil Spector was arrested Monday for allegedly shooting and killing a woman at his Los Angeles home.
Spector, 62, was arrested for "investigation of murder" after a woman was found shot to death at his estate located approximately 10-15 miles from L.A. Police said that the call that shots had been fired came from within Spector’s residence. Authorities responded to the call and found the body of 40-year old Lana Clarkson in the foyer. Clarkson, originally reported to be in her 20s, is said to have been a sometime-actress. No word yet on the nature of Clarkson and Spector’s relationship.

The Alhambra Police Department says Clarkson was killed sometime around 5 a.m. A black Mercedes, with the passenger door ajar, was found parked in the driveway. Spector was released on $1 million bond. Attorney Robert Shapiro, one of O.J. Simpson’s lawyers, has been retained to represent Spector. Maybe Shapiro can work some of the same magic that helped O.J. beat a murder rap.

Spector began his career as a 17-year-old high school student after he wrote and produced a number one hit for his band, the Teddy Bears, titled "To Know Him Is to Love Him." He then began producing and has worked and helped many to achieve fame including Tina Turner, the Ronnettes, and the Crystals. He worked with the likes of the Beatles, the Ramones, and the Righteous Brothers. Spector has a history of bizarre behavior, including pulling a gun on the Ramone’s during a recording session. Spector was also known to carry a gun at all times and had an ongoing and well-documented drug problem. He also displayed obsessive tendencies regarding security and the protection around his "fortress-like" home he dubbed his "Pyrenees Castle." It has been reported that he has "engaged in near-psychotic and abusive behavior" for years. Is this just a tragic misstep in the life of Phil Spector or the culmination of years of psychotic behavior?
