Pete Doherty Arrested

Babyshambles and Kate Moss' ex Pete Doherty was arrested Monday night in England on suspicion of drug possession and auto theft.

Doherty, 26, and two other men ages 18 and 19, were arrested in Birmingham after they were spotted by the police in a car that had been reported stolen from London. A spokeswoman for the West Midlands Police said in a statement, "Three men were arrested yesterday when a car was stopped in Colmore Row in Birmingham at approximately 9:15 p.m. last night." She did not specifically name Doherty, but his news of his arrest was leaked to the media. The men were released on bail "pending further police inquiries." A spokesman for Doherty said, "I don’t know any more at this point until I have spoken to Pete’s lawyer."

Doherty should be used to the routine by now. In the past month, Doherty racked up seven separate drug charges. He plead guilty to possessing Class A drugs, including heroin, crack cocaine, morphine, and marijuana, and managed to not face any jail time. On February 8, he was ordered to enter a rehab program and was sentenced to a year’s worth of community service. Part of Doherty’s probation was monthly drug testing for the next year. He was also warned that if he violated his probation he would face jail time.

Doherty and his Babyshambles bandmates were forced to cancel a number of tour dates after his arrest and sentencing last in early February. Doherty gave an interview in which he said that he was planning to "start a drug-free life" and claimed that he was "not that much of a junkie anyway." Seriously, who is he trying to kid? In late November, Doherty entered a drug rehabilitation center at the urging of ex-girlfriend Moss. He left after a week and was arrested a day later on suspicion of drunken driving. He was then arrested for allegedly possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. Seems like this guy can’t get his life in order and if he isn’t careful he may end up losing it. Doherty is due in court on March 8 for a monthly review of his probation.
