Singer George Michael was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs early Sunday morning in central London.

Police reportedly woke a sleeping Michael only to arrest him shortly thereafter. A statement from London police read, "We were called by a member of the public to a man seen slumped over the steering wheel of a car. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled substances." Police feared Michael was "unfit to drive" and he was taken into custody and taken to a police station nearby. Michael faces possession charges.
The 42-year old singer was examined by paramedics and it was determined that he did not need any medical attention and it was determined that he had been capable of driving. A search of the car allegedly turned up small amounts of cannabis and GHB a.k.a. Liquid Ecstasy. Michael released a statement after his release and said that the incident was "my own stupid fault, as usual. I was in possession of class C drugs, which is an offense, and I have no complaints about the police who were professional throughout." If he is convicted of having class C drugs, he faces jail time up to two years and an unlimited fine. After an approximately seven-hour detainment, Michael was released on bail and must return to a police station after an investigation is conducted.
This is not the first time Michael has landed in jail. He was arrested in April 1998 in a Los Angeles park after engaging in a "lewd act" in front of a plainclothes police officer in a public bathroom. Shortly after the incident, Michael revealed that he was gay. In other news, he announced in November that he was planning to wed Kenny Goss, his longtime partner, sometime this year under Britain’s Civil Partnership Act. In 2004, he announced that he was leaving the pop world behind and in the future would distribute his tunes over the Internet and donate all proceeds to charity. Michael has said that he finds the media attention "unbearable."
