Museveni Victorious in First Multi-party Election
President Yoweri Museveni has won another five-year term in Uganda's first multi-party elections, according to official results.
Mr. Museveni, who has governed Uganda for two decades, received 59% of the vote, compared with 37% for his main rival, Kizza Besigye.
The opposition made gains in urban areas but struggled in the countryside. The opposition Forum for Democratic Change said its own tally was substantially different, though foreign observers said the poll was largely free and fair. But EU observers said there had not been a level playing field during the campaign.
