Bobby Knight has now been out of coaching for several months. Since being fired from Indiana, several schools have reportedly expressed interest in the former Big 10 Champion coach. The question now is when would Knight like to re-enter coaching?

Knight earlier this week was contacted about the Rhode Island coaching position, which will be opening following the season. However, Knight expressed no interest in the job and has chosen for the time being to keep his options open. He has not been contacted about the UNLV job, which will be going to Rick Pitino according to sources.

So what then is the former three-time title winning coach to do? Sportsuperstarz.com has learned that two marquee schools have interest in the mentor if their coaching positions open as planned following the season. Sources in both Louisville and Michigan have told Sportsuperstarz.com that they would like the former Indiana coach to interview for their head coaching jobs.

Both schools currently have head coaches. For Louisville Denny Crum may be removed following the Conference USA Tournament, which would clear the way for Knight to interview. Michigan also is being currently lead by Brian Elerbee, however sources within the school indicate he will be fired following the season. A source at Michigan denied a report that Seton Hall’s Tommy Amaker was Michigan’s top choice.

Sources close to Knight indicate he would be interested in interviewing for both jobs. Knight expressed a want to return to coaching from the day he was fired at Indiana. Sources say Knight has expressed that he would like to get back into a big program, as compared to several disgraced coaches who have chosen to go to smaller colleges to get back into coaching.

Knight was fired at Indiana in September following an incident with a student. He was fired for what University President Myles Brand called “conduct detrimental to Indiana University.” Knight did only one interview following the incident and was consulted for only one coaching position, that being with former player Isaih Thomas and the Indiana Pacers. Knight turned down the job and stated he wanted to coach again in college.

If both situations work out, Knight may be back in college sooner than anyone has expected.
