What to See in Rome

Rome as a whole is a breathtaking historical and architectural masterpiece. From ancient times up to now, Rome has been an important city that defied the ages through power, decline, peace and war. Here are some of the main monuments or attractions to be seen in Rome:

- The Roman Forum was a political public place for people to share their thoughts

- The coliseum was the sporting arena of the time for gladiator fighting and other less cruel events

- The Catacombs where early Christians and Jews buried their dead before they were allowed to own some private lands. The catacombs also served as hiding places during Christian persecution periods.

- Spanish Steps going up from the Piazza di Spagna.

- The Piazza Navona
- Villa Borghese
- Trevi Fountain
- The Roseto Comunale.
- Pantheon
- Caravaggio in Rome
- Palazzo della Cancelleria
- The baroque Trastevere neighborhood
- Many Museums
- Casina delle Civette
- Villa Giulia

San Clemente, San Pietro in Vincoli, Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Church of Saint John Lateran, San Ignatio and more churches and many other popular tourist spots.

- And obviously the Vatican city-state that includes St. Peter's Cathedral, St. Peter's Square, the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, Castel Sant'Angelo and more.

See more detailed description for each of these Rome historical attractions.

So if you want to get a good sight and feeling of all the historical attractions Rome has to offer you will need to plan a trip that extends beyond the matter of days. As the old Roman saying says "For Seeing Rome, a lifetime is not enough".
