Las Vegas police yesterday presented evidence against Mike Tyson to prosecutors in connection with the alleged rape of a woman, one of two sexual assaults for which the boxer is under investigation.

News of the move came as Tyson's handlers explored the possibility of a new venue for his proposed heavyweight championship fight with Britain's Lennox Lewis.

Police believe that they now have enough evidence to charge him in connection with an incident at a woman's home in the city last September. Local prosecution authorities will make the final decision.

Earlier this week, Tyson failed in his attempt to gain a licence to fight Lewis in Nevada on April 6, partly due to events in New York the previous week when he bit Lewis at a press conference to publicise the fight.

A separate investigation into an alleged sexual assault on a woman, 20, at Tyson's home in Las Vegas in November 2000 is also under way.
