Get educated- You need to be able to speak knowledgably about your company's history, compensation plan and the industry as a whole. Serious business people know the information, and can answer questions.
Polish your presentation- use company provided, professional looking, brochures, power point slides, and other tools, and work out a presentation that is concise and accurate. The tools show your potential partner what's available, and your presentation allows people to evaluate your seriousness.
Get real and stay real- It is easy to become excited and go off a tangent. There is a big difference, however, between controlled excitement, and "hype". Learn the difference, and don't cross the line.
Stay in tune with your potential business partner- Watch for non-verbal clues as to how your presentation is being accepted. Don't be afraid to say, "you look like you don't understand that point. Can I clarify it for you?"
