Rumors of a split began circulating on Valentine’s Day alleging that the couple had called off their upcoming wedding and "plan to keep up the charade of a romance until after the baby is born this spring." The report says the couple will live in Cruise’s Beverly Hills mansion, but will be sleeping in separate bedrooms. An unnamed source reportedly said that Cruise would purchase Holmes’ a house close to his so he can have easy access to the child and the stars will have joint custody.
Shortly after the news was leaked, Cruise’s mouthpiece slammed the reports. Arnold Robinson, Cruise’s publicist, said in a statement, "It should be known that the story is 100 percent false. Mr. Cruise and Ms. Holmes are still engaged and are moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child." He continued saying the story was "malicious" and "the couple is looking forward to a long and happy life together as a family."
This just leads to further speculation that the Cruise-Holmes relationship was more business than pleasure. Skeptics have said since day one that the relationship was a ruse. It all seemed so forced and practically overnight. The couple went public with their relationship in April and announced their engagement a mere two months later. They announced the pregnancy in October. As for the split, a source close to the couple said they haven’t been seen much together due to "impending events." Said the source, "Katie’s been staying home, and Tom’s doing post-production work (on Mission: Impossible 3). They’re still very much in love." Let the waiting games begin!
