Singer R. Kelly Faces Sex Scandal
A video tape was sent anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times last week allegedly showing singer R. Kelly, 33, having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
An approximately 27-minute sex video tape was sent anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times last week, allegedly showing singer R. Kelly, 33, having sex with a 14-year old girl. Chicago police department spokesman Patrick Camden was quoted as saying, "Our special investigations unit has received a video tape that is being investigated." In Illinois it is against the law for adult men to have sex with girls under 17, and it is a felony for anyone to video tape sex with anyone under 18.
John M. Touhy, Kelly’s attorney, told the Chicago Sun-Times that the sex video was a fake. He said, "Any tape you have is fake, and we find the timing of these events to be extremely suspicious." It has been reported that the girl in the sex video, now 17, was identified by her aunt. It has also been reported in the Sun-Times that the sex tape appears to have been taken sometime between 1998 and 2000. The paper reports that in the tape a TV is playing in the background and supposedly shows a commercial for The Money Store, which closed in 2000, and announced videos for the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls as new—which would have been popular in late 1998 or early 1999.
According to the Sun-Times, the sex video tape was sent to the paper after a report in December 2000 that claims Kelly, a.k.a. Robert S. Kelly, used his "fame and money to seduce underage women." As reported on Eonline.com, the paper has chronicled the allegations, which included lawsuits from two Chicago women who claimed they were involved with Kelly while they were underage. Kelly married the late Aaliayah in 1994. He was 25 at the time and she was 15 and the marriage was immediately annulled when her parents became aware of it. Both Kelly and Aaliyah refused to comment on the marriage. Lawyer Toughy was quoted in the Sun-Times, "Kelly is at the top of his career. He has a hit song out right now, he performed at the NFC title game and he’s performing at the Olympics. In light of those events, I believe you have to have serious questions in your mind about the motives of people who sent you that forged tape." If these allegations prove to be true, will R. Kelly still believe he can fly?
