Despite past, Knight deserves credit
The Kansas Jayhawks recently stomped Bob Knight's Texas Tech Red Raiders. But, check the standings. Texas Tech is 16-6 and Knight has uncharacteristically remained somewhat out of the spotlight. Is Knight finally ready to stay behind the scenes?

Give Bob Knight a hand. He deserves it.
I, like most decent Americans, do not like Bob Knight. I root against him. I make jokes about him. I just dislike Knight.
However, the man deserves some praise. Since becoming Texas Tech's men's basketball coach, Bob Knight's name hasn't made many headlines. None of the usual headlines, that is. He hasn't attacked the media yet; verbally or physically. He hasn't had any major outbursts, or least in public ... well, not too many in public. Overall, Knight has kept a bit of a low profile.
Knight has been low profile everywhere, but in the standings. While his Red Raiders are only 5-5 in conference play, Bob's team is ranked No. 24 in the nation and are 16-6 overall this season. A season that includes big wins over Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. Three of their losses were by three or fewer points, and only two were blowouts; one to Oklahoma, and the other to Kansas, one of the top teams in the nation.
The Red Raiders have dropped five of their last eight games, but Knight shouldn't get too worried, because Tech could possibly win all six of their remaining regular season games. Even if Knight's squad wins just four of them, that would give the team an outstanding 20-8 record.
As much as I dislike Bob Knight, the man deserves a lot of credit. He has been able to bite his tongue and stick to what he's good at: coaching basketball, something he seemed to lose sight of at Indiana. Especially toward the end of his long tenure at IU, every night of SportsCenter was another night of Bob Knight controversy, and it was leaving a bad taste in the mouth of college basketball fans.
That bad taste better disappear fast, though, because Knight is just 102 wins away from becoming the all-time winningest coach in NCAA men's basketball history. Despite the outbursts, the obnoxious voice, and the fact that he coached at Indiana for 30 years (enough to make anybody shiver), when Knight breaks the record, I'll clap for him.
Everybody should. Knight has gone through most of the season without incident, so maybe it's time to forget that part of his past. The man is one of the greatest coaches in basketball history, and that's a fact.
He doesn't care if you like him. Most people don't. But, you can't hate Bob Knight the legend.
