Art : Mystery of Artist's life

Abstract

In my graduate days, I used to see an old man sitting on a footpath. The footpath was joining end of my college and the end of Fine Arts College. There were different opinions about an old man. For some kind people, he was beggar. For some very societal people, he was dirty. The life of that old man was to draw pictures of god and goddess, politicians and existence entities on earth. The similar work i found in the gallery of Fine Arts College also. And that’s why he was an artist for me. On similar situation, i want to recall Marc Chagall. An artist said " My name is Marc, my emotional life is sensitive and my purse is empty, but they say I have talent."

Introduction

No one other than artist knows meaning of life. To believe in an artist is to believe in life. You may call it abstract, modern, expressionism, cubism, impressionism and realism. You name it any School of art. But for an artist, it is nothing but an autobiography - every moments of life painted on canvas.

I am much interested in art since my sisters fall in this category. You don’t need any special qualification to become an artist. One of my sisters is management graduate. Still she believes in art. I wish to share my understanding of an art. I beg pardon if I make mistake in understanding art and artist.

What is an art?

For me it is - Ageless Revolutionary Thoughts.

Ageless

Art expresses reality. Art is a life of an artist. Art is age of an artist, artist’s period and artist’s culture.

" To be ageless is an artist’s privilege. When I paint I am ageless, I just have the pleasure or the difficulty of painting" said Francis Bacon.

Revolution

The people always go against thought process of an artist. The great followers of religion used to opposite any new creation by an artist. It may be today’s antique, which could have been demolished by oppositions in early centuries. Aim of an artist is always to express inner thoughts. Still it is revolution. Picasso’s aim was not to discover cubism, but it happened in process of expressing inner self. Paul Gauguin quoted " Art is either plagiarism or revolution." And that is bare truth.

Thoughts

You take poets, stories or sculptures. Everything is out come of a long thought process. For a painter it is easy to put thoughts on canvas rather in words. Human being has got a mind that thinks deeply. If you can get few minutes free for your real life, you also create something different. Creation is form of thoughts. "To give body and perfect form to your thought, this alone is what is to be an artist." - Jacques Louis David.

Who is an artist?

Life is full of mysteries. A person who tries to deepen the mystery, who believes in life, who clearly define the thought process to create and full of courage is an artist.

Simple definition of an artist is - " If you can create which is nothing but output of your deep thinking and feeling, you are an artist."

Artist is a baby.

Picasso remarked " Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

When you were child, you did not know anything about New World. But your eagerness to learn and to know made you creative. As a child everything done by you was a creation. Every day was an adventure day. Somewhere we fixed our limit in the process of creation. If you like to watch movies, simply watch " Baby’s day out". It is the best example of child’s eagerness.

If you want your child to learn painting, just give colors, brush and papers and leave it alone. No criticism or guidelines required. If it wants to fill green in sky and blue in grass, let him do. That’s what creativity is.

But it doesn’t mean you don’t copy something from outer world. Outer world is part of life. "And those who don’t want to imitate anything produce nothing." - Salvador Dali.

Nothing is horrible in art.

I find some people feeling shy when nude painting put in front of them. What’s bad in it. Nature is nude. Everything depends on minds of people. Francis’s felt life as violence. It happens. He said " Even within the most beautiful landscape, in the trees, under the leaves the insects are eating each other; violence is a part of life." Everyone is not same like our fingers are of different size. It may be horrible if you disturb someone else’s emotions continuously. It happens in case of artist who wishes to draw critics on god and goddess. Although it is a form of an art, it is protested. This is bare truth of every age.

Earn to survive!

Finance has always been trouble for an artist. If you are new artist and wish to promote your art earning something, I suggest you to read " Business of being an artist" by Daneil Grant. It is all about how to create and market art on a web site; how artists have handled controversy and censorship; copyright and trademark protection on the internet; and an expanded section on the new realities of fund - arising and funding sources. " The business side of being an artist means knowing what the options are and making informed choices. Too many artists are unaware that they have choices or that there is more than one way for them to achieve success is defined here as the ability to make a living as an artist," writes Grant.

Experimenting with life

An experiment is part of artist’s life. For my sister, Ceramic painting is satisfactory achievement. She took inspiration from a Thai artist and created Coffee painting also. She has never seen how to create coffee painting. But her experiments with an art did it. In her latest exhibition she was praised for such creation. She proved it. "To create a beautiful painting so many colors and subjects are not required. One color is enough." Anyway using single or multiple colors do not matter, but continuous learning and experiments are the theme.

Art is the door of God home.

If I talk in spiritual way, art is divine. An artist is conceived as the hollowed-out instrument of God, emptied of egoism and selfish desire, and thus able to transmit the experience of their union with through the enchanting "music" of their artwork. Painting is grandchild of nature. It is related to God. William Blake quoted on art " I myself do nothing. The Holy Spirit accomplishes all through me."

What do we know now?

Let me end with one more truth of an art. You never define art. Art defines you. Oscar Wilde said, "No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist." Franz Kline believed in creating something, which was unknown.

Art shows us what we don’t know and never will. That don’t know is hidden somewhere in our soul.

Every artist creates his own world. Henry Miller said " The artist does not tinker with the universe, he recreates it out of his own experience and understanding of life."

A canvas is world, colors are centuries and brush is himself. Open the hidden closed window of your soul, live as an artist to burn your emotions to easy yourself.
