Warne Comeback Ends in Defeat
Despite taking five wickets, Shane Warne's first outing after a 12-month drugs ban has ended in defeat against Queensland.
Shane Warne's comeback after a 12-month drugs ban saw him take five wickets against Queensland in a second XI match - but not before they'd put on 152 runs to help condemn Victoria to defeat.
Newly slim-line he may be, but Warne looked rusty as he struggled to take three for 120 in a second innings of 306 for seven for Queensland, who won by three wickets with one delivery to spare - Nathan Hauritz hitting seven from the fourth and fifth balls of the final over.
Warne has 491 test victims to look back on but he looked anything but Australia's leading wicket-taker as he dropped a caught-and-bowled chance and was hit for five sixes
Victoria captain Peter Roach said Warne had come through the match comfortably and was content after the first innings.
"We asked him if he wanted to keep bowling and he said he did," Roach said. "He's happy with the way he came through."
Warne was caught up in cricket's biggest drugs scandal when he tested positive for a diuretic a year ago. He insisted they were used to help him lose weight but the diuretic can also be used to hide any other drugs in the system and he was banned for 12 months.
The leg-spinner now has until February 20 to impress selectors for Australia's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
