NFL: Steussie questions Moss' abilities

Randy Moss says he didn't play hard on every down during the Vikings embarassing loss to the New York Giants during the NFC Championship Game. Now he's taking slack for the comments from many, who also question his heart.

As if Dennis Green and company didn’t have enough to worry about.

On the heals of the Randy Moss rants, the Cris Carter situation, and the Robert Smith retirement, the Vikings received yet another arrow through their collective hearts. This time it came as Todd Steussie ripped through Moss for his admission that he did not play hard on every down in the Vikings 41-0 embarrassment against the New York Giants in the NFC Championship game.

“Absolutely, I have a problem with him on that," Steussie told Sportsuperstarz.com. "Randy has pretty much admitted that he takes some plays off. And it's true that nothing negative may happen on some of those plays. I liken it to defensive linemen. They can take plays off, but if they make one or two high-impact plays, it almost doesn't matter. Same with Randy. He can make two plays a game, and he's the MVP.”

Moss has admitted to several news sources in interviews that he doesn’t always give 100%. That is a statement that does not sit well with the veteran Steussie. "But what I have a problem with is there are a lot of players who were continuing to bust their butts in the Giants game who aren't in a position to take a play or two off. Korey Stringer was having a tough time with (Michael Strahan), and it's a disservice to Korey and the rest of us if Randy is not at least trying to do what he is supposed to do on every play," Steussie stated. "That's not watching Korey's back, that's not watching all the linemen's backs, that's not watching Daunte Culpepper's back. And that's not fair. I know Randy is his own man, and he's a great player, but he's going to have to start figuring this stuff out."

In the past month, Moss has also questioned whether the Vikings will ever be a championship team. Sportsuperstarz.com also reported that Moss called Carter’s situation a distraction and that he has stated that he wants to leave Minnesota. Those statements have led to defensive end John Randle to ask to be traded. Sources have not said whether the Vikings will honor that request.

It has certainly been a trying offseason in Minnesota. Following their NFC Championship game debacle, several players have spoken about the team. Following that, Smith retired, leaving the league’s second rated offense looking for a running back. Sources confirmed to Sportsuperstarz.com that the Vikings have had indirect contact with Bengals’ star Corey Dillon about coming to Minnesota.

The Vikings will have a lot of holes too sure up in the offseason. Green would not comment on the state of the team, however he did say that the Vikings will do whatever is best for their future this offseason. The question is, with the players coming apart, what is their future?
