Scientific Achievements: New Inventions And Discoveries

In the world of science and technology, the Internet offers information about the triumphs of the past and the promise of the future.
Throughout history, the discoveries and inventions put forth in the field of science have determined, to a large extent, the ways in which we live our lives. From the first measurements of time, which were crudely constructed calendars some 20,000 years ago, science has had a significant impact on our daily routines. It is through science that we are able to explore and discover the world around us and to learn how we affect that world and how it affects us.

Some of the more monumental scientific achievements have altered previously unquestioned notions of human existence. Prior to the invention of the telescope, it was widely accepted (and enforced) that Earth was the center of the universe and all planetary bodies thus revolved around it. It was through the use of the telescope that the heliocentric theory of the universe was finally proven beyond refute.

Advances in science have also been a driving force in the field of medicine. Similar to the telescope, the microscope opened up an entirely new world to scientists. With the power to study microscopic particles, bacteria, cells, and the like, scientists were able to better understand the human body and the illnesses that affect it. The field of medicine continues to be on the leading edge of scientific discovery, with new cures and new diseases being discovered almost daily.
