Gonzaga Basketball -- The good, the bad and the ugly
The Gonzaga Bulldogs won the BB&T Tournament Championship on Sunday with a 96-91 win over the George Washington Colonials.
Here are some insights into the game.
The Good: The Zags are now 6-1 after beating George Washington University on Sunday. Ronny Turaif (turned an ankle in Saturdays game) was the hero in this one as he scored 29 points and almost single handedly willed the Zags to victory. He was 9 of 14 from the field and 10 of 12 from the line, and his six rebounds led the team.
Erroll Knight, the transfer from the University of Washington, finally broke out with an impressive performance. He made a few highlight reel blocks, and contributed a season high 18 points.
The two freshman from Spokane, Adam Morrison and Sean Mallon, chipped in 10 and eight points respectively.
The Bad: Blake Stepp was held to only five points and four assists, although he only attempted three shots from the field.
Richard Fox played sparingly and did not attempt any field goals.
The Ugly: The game did not have much flow to it, as George Washington pressed for most of the game and both teams combined to shoot 63 free throws.
Next up for the Zags is a game with the highly ranked Missouri Tigers on Saturday in the Key Arena (Seattle).
