Tennessee brings can of worms, LSU brings the can opener

LSU's victory against Tennessee has opened up what could be a very tidy mess in the BCS picture.
So what do we do now?

Nebraska or Colorado? Oregon? Maryland? Illinois?

If Colorado is there, what about other two loss teams -- Florida? Stanford? Even Tennessee?

It's gonna be the Buffs or the Huskers. It all depends on the Coaches poll. Whoever finishes higher between Colorado and Nebraska will face Miami. Last week Nebraska had a 55 point lead on Colorado. Will it hold up? If it doesn't, we are gonna have some 'splainin to do, Lucy.

Well, I'm glad someone finally explained to BYU that you can't play with the big boys unless you play on BOTH sides of the ball. Seventy-two points to Hawaii? What would have happened against Florida, Miami, or Nebraska? 100? 120?

This is why margin of victory IS important and to keep it out of the computers is asinine. Margin of victory is not only a measure of offense, but defense also. To have BYU in a BCS game this year would have been a travesty. Except for BYU, the lowest ranked strength of schedule in the top twenty was 56th. BYU's was 105th.

So what will the final BCS standings look like? My guess is Miami, Nebraska, Colorado, Oregon, Tennessee, and Florida. Nebraska and Colorado will be separated by around 0.4 points, with Oregon a full two points behind them. Tennessee and Florida will be separated by about a point.

Eric Crouch won the Heisman by default. Grossman would have won if Florida had beaten UT last week, instead, despite him playing well, they lost and gave voters a reason to vote for Bryant McKinnie (26 first place votes) or Antwaan Randle El (46 first place votes). Grossman ended up losing by 25 first place votes. Don't get me wrong, but Crouch's numbers don't exactly match up to the Heisman name. His leadership and winning attitude are exemplary, but that's never been what the Heisman is about. If it was, lineman and defensive players would be more represented. The Heisman is about numbers in a winning program. Except this year...

What's the deal with the low voter turnout for Heisman voters? A typical year brings in a return of 80% of the ballots sent out. This year it was 63%. A normal year would have produced about 150 more votes. Strange...

Finally to the SEC Championship game. UT was beat by a backup QB and RB. They had what Florida didn't, a quality backup running back. They also had a defensive line, holding Travis Stephens to 37 yards on 14 carries. They had the desire. They had the will. They had the heart. Now they have the SEC Championship.

The number two team has now lost three weeks in a row. I wonder if that has ever happened before?

Did you see Roy Kramer's answer when he was asked about the mess the BCS would be in if LSU won? He basically said that the BCS works and the proof is that Miami will have an opponent in the Rose Bowl. See, Roy doesn't care who plays for the national championship or how those teams are picked or if it's the right teams. His only care is that one (and most of the time, two) of his teams get to play in the high paying BCS bowls. It's all about the money to Roy and that's a shame.

Miami vs. Nebraska in the Rose Bowl? Crouch runs wild (check Miami's games against teams with decent running games), Cornhuskers by 13, 34-21.

Later...
