Mike Burleson: Sea King Song Strikes Chord
After suffering an embarrassing series of crashes and the creation of a song parody lamenting the pilots’ fate, Canada is moving quickly to replace its worn out Sea King helicopters.

"Accordingly, today, I have instructed my officials to proceed as soon as possible with a single tender for a fully equipped helicopter."

So said Canadian Defense Minister John McCullum Thursday before Parliament. The Chretien government has been accused of dragging its feet in buying new helicopters to replace the 40 year old aircraft, bought from the US in the early 1960’s. Of 41 purchased, 112 have crashed taking the lives of 8 people.

A satire to the military’s frustration is the "Sea King song" which has been making rounds on the internet. Some of the lyrics are:

"Goodbye papa, please pray for me,
my helicopter is crashing in the sea.
I honestly don’t mean to pout,
But my future is in doubt. My co-pilot just fell out.

If you haven’t heard the song, here’s your chance:

How do you think the Canadians would fare in a war?
Good
Poor
The very best they can as always
