No Longer The Child

His journey begins on the path of life
searching for his reasons, his purpose
a Mother letting go to understand
the child she only wants to protect
Yes, Lord, it is difficult letting go
I know in my heart for the time has come
as he asserts his authority to be on his own;
I did my best to raise a child
to be a better man live by morality
and the legacy of his given name
truly authentic he has turned out to be
to love and honor and stand by the love of his life
may the love for her son always be
a guiding hand, a nurturing heart, a bond unbroken
for a man is taught many things
a mother's true unconditional love
a genuine man, a kinder spirit
a truly loving soul with a heart of gold

I dedicate this poem to my sons Chris & Zachary
who will one day take flight from their Mothers nest
