BOXING: The Dangers of Boxing

By Edgar Guevara

Another black eye in the sport of boxing. Paul Ingle was in critical condition last Saturday in England, after a title fight. We all hope he has full recovery. Indeed he is doing much better now, thank God.

Now doctors again are attacking and threatening to ban boxing. Many other sports are very dangerous and are never on the same list of being ban. What happened on Saturday is not the first or last boxer hurt, that is part of the game.

Some fights ending in death or seriously hurt can be prevented, by the corner, the referee or boxer himself when he gets a feeling or sign of being hurt. Golota against Tyson is good example.

Another example is Trinidad-Vargas the last round of the fight, first two knockdowns in round twelve the fight should have been stopped right and then, instead referee let Trinidad punished Vargas mercifully. It was brutal fight after all.

So I think the corner, referee, doctor, boxer all have the same responsibility, they should halt a fight when a fighter is in a bad situation.

Many of these boxers are poor people from third world countries or neighborhoods in a first world countries. They have hard lives as a kid no one to depend on so they can't go to school cause of financial problems. So their only prize to life is boxing.

A short cut to big time money. Money is the way to survive in this life and these people are not by themselves, they have families. Also they love the spot light and they want to get there and any price.

This is a part of survival for certain individuals you can't stop that, but help them and support them.

Promoters should have some type of insurance for these individuals, after all they are entertainers every entertainer wants to comeback to the show one more time. So take care of them and family by protecting them in the right way. They are humans too.
