Time Management - How To Start

No doubt almost every single person in this world wants to succeed in his/her life. Everyone wants to get extra pace over the others in every possible field. Whether it is you or I, we all want to achieve name, fame and want to be in the top achiever's list.

But to do all these things, we need to prepare ourselves and work real hard towards achieving our goals. To do all these things we also need time, that everyone has and in same amount every day i.e. every single person gets 24 hours a day which is same as of others. All that you need to do is to manage your time and put in the right efforts at right place.

Hard work and a right chance are the most important factors for success, but doing things on time adds extra percentage in the probability of getting successful in any profession. If you are a student pursuing some degree, a professional working on some project (may be a software project or some other king of project), a teacher, a businessman etc. then you must learn to utilize every bit of time that you have been allotted with.

Following are some Do's and Don'ts which can help you in managing your time:

Enlist your goals: As a first step of managing your time, you need to find out all the activities you do. Enlist all those activities which you need to perform on daily basis, those activities which are needed to be performed on periodic basis (may be in few days or weekly, or may be monthly basis), and the most important part will be enlisting the goals you want to achieve at a particular step in your run. Try to eliminate activities which are not important (or at least those activities which eats up your precious time). If possible, try to find out which of the task/activity needs to be given privilege over the other tasks/activities. Now all that you need to do is to prepare sheets containing activities and estimated time to complete the same, this will help you in predicting the effort you need to put in to complete the activities and give more emphasize towards the most important task(s). After enlisting all your activities, now you need to decide ideally how much time it will take to accomplish the ultimate goal you want to achieve and also do consider the actual time that you will need to accomplish it.

Need a Good Start: If you have defined every goal properly and have found out the time that you need to work on it, then all that you need is a good start. A good start will work as motivating factor (remember the adage "A good start is half done").

Have Some Spare Time: Do take care not to keep your schedules tightly bound to time, for example, if some task can be finished in half an hour, you should first consider your ability if you can finish it in the same time otherwise, take the actual time that you need to finish it, or keep some flexibility in the schedule/planner. You also need to think about the disturbances and time that you may need to spend in resolving the situations caused by other things such as some emergency etc. Always remember to keep some time loose without any goal-oriented activity in your schedule/planner.

All Work No Play: Do not commit a mistake by adding various activities related to only goals that you want to achieve in your planner; do keep some time for amusement activities which will energize you to take over next activities and also will help in fighting with stress easily. Remember "All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy".

Concentrate: Now, as you know where you are heading for and how you will be achieving the milestones in your journey towards your goals, you should be careful not to let your concentration divert. You should try to avoid the activities which takes away your precious time from you and do not help in what you want to do. Remember that luck favors the prepared mind, and to prepare for something you need TIME! So it is very important that we should manage our time and save every possible bit of time to move towards our goals.
