Henson Gets 10-week Ban
Rugby Union: Osprey's Gavin Henson has been found guilty of elbowing Alex Moreno and banned for 10 weeks.
Gavin Henson has been banned for 10 weeks and two days by an RFU disciplinary panel after being found guilty of striking a player. Henson aimed an elbow at Alex Moreno as Ospreys took on Leicester Tigers - but was found not guilty of kicking out at the same player.
He will miss the first three games of the 2006 Six Nations and one Celtic League match as a result.
Former England coach Dick Best had earlier called for the IRB to make an example of Henson for his actions.
"Players have to control themselves on the field, they are role models to a lot of young people and you can't go around this game elbowing people in the nose and trying to kick people in the face. People take a dim view of that sort of thing," he said.
"I hope that the disciplinary people look at it very very carefully and make the right decision. I want to see these guys cited and I want to see these guys banned for a considerable amount of time."
Ospreys second row Ian Evans was banned for eight weeks and two days at the hearing in Glasgow.
Evans accepted he had stamped on England scrum-half Harry Ellis and will be out of action until February 20 as a result. It means he will miss four Celtic League games for the Ospreys and will be unavailable for the first two games of Wales' Six Nations campaign, against England and Scotland.
Ellis will require surgery on his knee as a result of the incident but the injury is not as serious as first feared and he hopes to be back in action in time for Leicester's next Heineken Cup match against Stade Francais on January 15.
Both parties were advised of the right to appeal.
