NCAA: Buckeyes Tack On Another Win
The Ohio State women's basketball team beat UCLA 79-57 for its tenth-straight win in as many games.
Another night, another win for the Ohio State women’s basketball team. On Thursday night, the Buckeyes defeated UCLA 79-57. making it their tenth straight win. But early in the game, no one would have predicted a 22-point victory for the Bucks. The Bruins only trailed by ten at the end of the first half, 41-31, and managed to cut the lead to six early in the second half, 42-36. However, Ohio State went on an 11-0 run and led by 17 with 13:01 remaining in the contest and the Buckeyes never looked back.
LaToya Turner paced Ohio State with 20 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Courtney Coleman notched her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jamie Lewis, who tacked on her seventh double-figure assist in ten games, dished the ball 11 times and scored 8 points. Tomeka Brown stepped up in place of the absent Caity Matter and hit for 16, while also racking up 4 assists.
UCLA was led by Michelle Greco’s 20 points. The Bruins, who drop to 2-8, shot only 39.6 % for the game. OSU shot 57.7 % for the game. The Buckeyes also out-rebounded UCLA, 38-26.
When questioned about their 10-0 start, Buckeyes coach Beth Burns stated, “We’re certainly thrilled to be in this position. Throughout this whole string we’ve had challenges. Tanya (McClure) and Courtney (Bale) were injured. Caity (Matter) couldn’t go today and we adjusted.”
Ohio State returns to the hardwood December 28th in their Big Ten opener versus Indiana.
