Golf: Door Remains Open for Wie to Play Men in Europe
Michelle Wie may play in a European event next season after the Tour's board rejected calls to stop sponsors offering invitations to female players.
The door was left open for Michelle Wie to play in a European Tour event next season after a meeting of the Tour's board rejected calls to stop tournament sponsors offering special invitations to female players.
Jean Van de Velde, a member of the tour's players' committee, had argued that women should not be allowed to play in men's events, at least not while men are not allowed to enter women's event such as the women's British Open.
Wie, who turned professional on her 16th birthday in October, has played in men's events in the United States and Japan and expressed an interest in playing in a European Tour event and the Open.
