Dallas Stars TV/Radio announcer injured in accident
Ralph Strangis, the long-time Dallas Stars TV/Radio play-by-play announcer, was injured in a car accident Tuesday night in Dallas.
The Dallas Stars announced that long time TV/Radio announcer Ralph Strangis was injured in a car accident late Tuesday night.
Strangis is currently hospitalized at Baylor Medical Center in Irving, Texas.
He suffered a back injury reported to be a cracked vertebrae, but is listed as being in stable condition.
Strangis will not make a three-game road trip with the team, missing his first game since the team moved to Dallas from Minnesota in 1993.
Josh Lewin, recently hired as the new Texas Rangers television play-by-play announcer, will fill in for Strangis during the Stars road trip. Lewin has previously announced hockey games on Fox Sports Net. He also has previously worked with Stars color commentator Daryl "Razor" Reaugh, on several minor league hockey broadcasts.
Stars Head Coach Ken Hitchcock sent out his wishes to Strangis, "We hope he gets well soon. We're going to miss him."
