Tom Green Files for Divorce from Drew Barrymore

Less than six months after their actual nuptials took place, comedian Tom Green filed for divorce from actress Drew Barrymore.
Citing "irreconcilable differences," comedian Tom Green filed for divorce from actress Drew Barrymore after less than six months of marriage. The papers, which state the couple actually separated on December 11, were filed on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Green is quoted in a statement as saying, "Drew is a wonderful woman, I love her very much. I wish our marriage could have worked out, I wish her much happiness." This is Green’s first marriage and Barrymore’s second. Barrymore was married briefly (although almost twice as long as this marriage lasted) in 1994 to bar owner, Jeremy Thomas.

Green and Barrymore began dating in early 2000 and were engaged in July of that year. The couple endured Green’s bout with testicular cancer and a fire at Barrymore’s $3 million home in L.A. The fire occurred in February and the couple escaped after being awakened by Barrymore’s dog, Flossie. The couple spent almost a year keeping everyone guessing as to when they would actually tie the knot. At one point Green claimed the two had wedded overseas. There was even talk of them being married when Green hosted Saturday Night Live. The concocted "skit-gone-wrong" left Green at the altar after Barrymore got cold feet. They finally made it to the altar on July 2, 2001 exchanging vows in a Malibu beachfront ceremony. Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, Adam Sandler and Molly Shannon were in attendance.

Barrymore grew up in the public eye. She was born into a famous Hollywood family and appeared in such films as ET, Irreconcilable Differences and Firestarter. As of late, she has starred in Never Been Kissed and Riding in Cars with Boys. She most recently appeared on Revealed with Jules Asner talking about her husband among other things. Green has signed on to create a half-hour variety show with the WB. The show will focus on the skateboarding world.
