Mike Burleson: Canada PM says West too rich
Prime Minister Chretein criticises "arrogant West". In an upcoming documentary produced by CBC, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretein says Western nations are "getting too rich in relation to the rest of the world".
Chretein went on to state that Western countries are "looked upon as being arrogant, self-satisfied, and greedy with no limits".
"September 11 is an occasion for me to realize it even more," he says. "This is the time to be nice".
Canada is opposed to the US going to war in Iraq without a United Nations mandate.
In a related story, the Toronto Star reports a 70 billion-dollar surplus in the Canadian budget over the next 5 years.
Order of Canada recipient praises Hitler
A former leader of Saskatchewan Indian Nations expressed support for the Nazi slaughter of Jews in World War 2.
David Ahenakew, a Canadian veteran and tribal leader was given the prestigious Order of Canada in 1978 for advancing Indian Education in Saskatchewan.
"He was going to make damn sure the Jews didn't take over Germany and Europe," Ahenakew stated. "That's why he fried six million of those guys."
Prime Minister Chretein said the comments were "completely unacceptable".
