A Thai-German couple who claimed last week, after seeing a photograph, that their daughter could be alive almost a year after the Boxing Day tsunami were given her body in August, the head of Thailand's victim identification centre said yesterday.

Colonel Khemarin Saisiri told Associated Press that the body of Solitaire Meissmer, five, was given to her parents, Sascha and Patchara, for cremation on August 8 after her identity was confirmed by DNA testing.

Col Ponprasert Ganjanarintr of the centre added: "To give confidence back to the family ... the police will look into this case from the photo."
