MLB: A-Rod Reaction
As I perused the sports pages over the past few days and read my favorite columnists, I became very disturbed as to what my eyes were seeing. These people were criticizing Alex Rodriguez and the Texas Rangers Baseball Club for signing a $252 million deal with the Texas Rangers.
These people feel that no player in any sport is worth that type of money. Even though A-Rod is one of the top players in the game today. Is he worth all of that money? Well in the eyes of the Rangers management he is, so I must agree with them because they are signing his paycheck. And that is all that matters.
Just look at the numbers. Rodriguez has hit at least 40 homers in three straight seasons, joining Hall of Famer Ernie Banks as the only shortstops to do it more than once. He was the fourth-youngest player to reach 150 home runs, already holds the American League single-season record for homers by a shortstop and captured the batting title by the age of 21.
Rodriguez did what anyone else who is at the top of his or her profession would do. He shopped himself around and Texas made him the highest off and took it. Would you or I want to stop Joe Bag-O-Doughnuts from leaving Apple to go and work for Microsoft for that type of money? I doubt it. We would say good for him and wish him and his family well in the future.
If these people are so outraged about this then they should do this stop watching baseball all together and don’t buy any memorabilia. That is the only way to show their disapproval. What would the Baseball Tonight be with out Peter Gammons or the Philadelphia Daily News with out Bill Conlin? Or there are only 15, 000 fans that show up at the Ballpark at Arlington.
Come on people lets not be mad at A-Rod lets wish him well in Texas. I for one cannot wait until the season opens and the Rangers are on.
